SERVICE IMPROVEMENT
The Pan Birmingham Cancer Network Service Improvement Team was set up, as part of the Cancer Services Collaborative – Improvement Partnership (CSC-IP), in 2003.
The original focus of the team was cross tumour work, such as diagnostics, non-surgical oncology, MDT development, and palliative and primary care. This expanded over time to encompass pathway redesign and inpatient length of stay. Since 2003, the team has been involved in all stages of improving the patient journey.
The team are currently working in the following areas across all Trusts:
- C-PORT implementation
- Redesigning the patient journey [Breast, Colorectal and Haematology]
- Radiology
- Histopathology
- Radiotherapy
And are also undertaking work at the Birmingham Dental Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation Trust.
The 6 key principles we base our work on are:
- Patient centred improvement
- Making service improvement part of everyday business for all staff
- Building local capacity for service improvement across the Network
- Focusing on local needs and priorities
- Sharing best practice and learning
- Continuous measurement to support improvement
For more information and examples of the work the team can do for you please look at the following document or the case studies page:
